Looking for exciting NYE plans that doesn’t involve watching the ball drop in Times Square? With the help of Mirador’s agents, we listed 7 fun city activities to ring in the new year.
Prospect Park Fireworks
Prospect Park, Brooklyn
If you’re looking for a family friendly - yet festive - New Year’s Eve activity, head over to Prospect Park’s annual firework show, which is held at Grand Army Plaza at the park’s northern point. The event features live entertainment leading up to the countdown, with the fireworks going up at the stroke of midnight.
NYRR Midnight Run
Central Park, New York
Get a head start on your new year’s resolutions by welcoming 2018 in the healthiest way possible. Join the New York Road Runners’ annual four-mile Midnight Run in Central Park, which starts with dancing at 10:00 pm. When the clock strikes midnight, you’ll begin your run, with fireworks overhead cheering you on.
The Grand Ball
The 1896 Venue - Bushwick, Queens
All of New York’s nightclubs celebrate NYE, but only one brings aerial dancers and fire performers to the dance floor. Tickets start at $35.
NYE Concert for the Peace
Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York
Those looking for a peaceful celebration will enjoy this enriching and festive program, which was founded by legendary composer Leonard Bernstein in 1984. The event includes performances by the church’s choir and orchestra, as well as readings and meditation. The concert starts promptly at 7:00 pm.
Fashion Avenue News Party
The Watson Hotel, New York
Celebrate in style at Fashion Avenue News Magazine’s annual New Year’s Eve Party featuring a live DJ, a decorating contest, and food. Tickets are free but must be reserved beforehand.
Staten Island Ferry Fireworks Cruise
Can’t decide which fireworks show to see? Take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry, which will provide front row seats to the fireworks going up over Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and the Statue of Liberty. The 25-minute trip will take you from Battery Park City to Staten Island and back.
Celebrate at a Friend’s House
Perhaps the best way to save money on NYE is celebrating at a friend’s house. No cover fees - or packed crowds - which is why it’s the favorite way to celebrate for Mirador’s financial advisor, Michael Roquet. “Last year I just spontaneously ended up on my friend’s roof for NYE and it was one of my favorite New Year’s yet,” he says.
Cook a New Year’s Eve Brunch
Host friends and family to celebrate NYE over a home-cooked meal. “New Year’s Eve is a terrific brunch day,” says Mirador’s Licensed Real Estate Salesperson, Jessica Milton, who hosts an annual NYE brunch in her home. “Black eyed peas are my favorite to make because they are my lucky food, which is always a good way to start the new year.”
